From January 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Latvia will increase from 700 to 740 euros.
“We are starting the transition to a new system, where the minimum wage will be determined as a percentage of the average salary in the country. This will improve the financial situation and standard of living of low-paid workers,” said Welfare Minister Uldis Augulis.
According to 2023 data, the share of people receiving the minimum wage in the public sector is 12.6%, in the private sector – 18.6%.
The Welfare Ministry hopes that the changes will help equalize wage levels in the Baltics and bring Latvian incomes closer to the EU average.
